I am very pleased to announce that starting Monday, September
12, I will be leading a class entitled "The Power of
Existential Intuition." Chris Richardson, a long time
member of the Theosophical Society and young philosopher,
will assist me during the classes.
Though the class will take place at the Theosophical Society
in Wheaton, Illinois, through a special arrangement I am
able to invite anyone interested to participate through
the Internet. Each class will be recorded and then edited
before being posted on the Internet along with access to
supplementary material.
In this 'minds-on' class we will approach the field of
spirituality and theosophy through the subtle and transformative
techniques developed in the philosophical movement of phenomenology.
In the process, we will explore our own capacity for gaining
the existential and spiritual insights that characterize
thinkers as diverse as Krishnamurti and Heidegger.
Enrollment in this class also includes a lecture by the
world renowned Heidegger scholar, Professor Theodore Kisiel
of Northern Illinois University. He has generously accepted
our invitation to do a presentation on Heidegger titled
"The Future of Being: Is Heidegger Its Prophet?"
While developing the pitch for the class to my fellow spiritual
seekers at the Theosophical Society in America, I presented
six reasons for giving the class. This was subsequently
worked out further and became an article published last
April on Alpheus tilted "The
Relevance of Phenomenology for Theosophy."
Please join us either in Wheaton or through the Internet.

The Power
of Existential Intuition
Mondays, September 12 - November 28
(12 classes), 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
Including Prof. Kisiel's lecture
Thursday, September 29, 7:30 p.m.
Classes conducted by
Govert Schüller and Chris Richardson
Existential intuition is the insight into the structural
dynamics of our everyday life and its transformative possibilities.
It can provide the vision for integrating our insights in
the realms of religion, science, and philosophy. The intention
of this class is to explore together the what and
how of our own capacity of intuition with the help
of many 'minds-on' examples culled from spiritual and philosophical
sources like Blavatsky, Krishnamurti, Bohm, Husserl, Heidegger
and Sartre. Based on this capacity we will explore a new
angle on the meaning of Theosophy. Familiarity with contemporary
philosophy is not necessary for participation.
Prof. Kisiel's lecture, "The Future of Being,"
on Thursday September 29 will be part of the class.
Govert Schüller studied philosophy in Holland and at
Northern Illinois University. He is the author of "Krishnamurti
and the World Teacher Project: Some Theosophical Perceptions."
Chris Richardson majored in philosophy at Shimer College
and studied philosophy for a term at Oxford.

The Future
of Being:
Is Heidegger Its Prophet?
Thursday, September 29, 7:30 p.m.
Lecture by Prof. Theodore Kisiel
Heidegger's grand quest was for the meaning of Being, and
within that quest he uncovered many of the purportedly ineffable
structures of human experience in the here and now. Heidegger's
insights have had lasting influence on such diverse fields
as psychiatry, literary criticism, Asian thought and religious
studies. Prof. Kisiel's inestimable contribution is in making
the thoughts of this philosophical giant of 20th century
philosophy ever so accessible, fruitful, and exciting for
the English-speaking world. He will highlight the possible
senses Heidegger's Being might send to us.
Theodore Kisiel is a Distinguished Research Professor at
Northern Illinois University. One of the most eminent Heidegger
scholars of our time, his work has found worldwide critical
acclaim. His particular strength is setting Heidegger's
thinking in the context of his life, times, and the history
of ideas. He is the author of The Genesis of Heidegger's
Being and Time(1993) and Heidegger's Way of Thought
(2002).
